TraffiCalm

TraffiCalm radar speed signs, pedestrian crossing beacons, and flashing sign systems are built to get driver attention where it matters most — in school zones, neighborhoods, and at crossings that can't afford to be missed. The line covers four jobs: slowing drivers down with a radar speed sign, controlling a pedestrian crossing with an RRFB (rectangular rapid flashing beacon), adding a flashing beacon to an existing sign, and retrofitting any sign with LED alert rings.

How to Choose a TraffiCalm System

TraffiCalm's lineup breaks into four jobs: slowing drivers down with a radar speed sign, controlling a pedestrian crossing with Push 2 Cross, flagging an existing sign with an Intelligent Beacon, or retrofitting one with a Flashing Sign System. Which one you need comes down to what you want the driver to notice — their own speed, a pedestrian in the crosswalk, or a sign they might otherwise pass right by.

Radar Speed Signs — Value Series & iQ Series Driver Feedback Signs

Both display an approaching vehicle’s speed and flash when the posted limit is exceeded. The Value Series uses a 7-segment LED display, runs up to 2 scheduled events per 24 hours, and comes in 9″ or 12″ sizes as a pole-mount, portable radar, or dolly-mounted sign. The iQ Series adds a full-matrix display with speed-triggered messages like “SLOW DOWN” or “TOO FAST,” beacon outputs, and up to 9 months of stored traffic and speed data, in the same pole-mount, portable, and dolly-mounted formats (iQ 900 at 9″, iQ 1200 at 12″). Pick the Value Series for a simpler, lower-cost deployment; pick the iQ Series when you need data logging or custom messaging.

Push 2 Cross — Pedestrian Crossing Beacons

An MUTCD-compliant solution for controlled pedestrian crossings — Safe Routes to School, Complete Streets, mid-block crossings. Built around the SA328 rectangular rapid flashing beacon (RRFB) and configured over secure WiFi through TC Connect, so no internet connection, app, or special software is needed; any browser-enabled device can adjust the settings.

Intelligent Beacons — Flashing Beacon Systems

Universal Beacons mount to any pole type — round, square wood, or metal — with top-of-pole or side-of-pole controller/collaborator cabinets, solar or AC power, and a range of battery sizes. The electronics, radios, and LEDs are fully epoxy-potted and environmentally sealed, so the whole assembly can be submerged and keep operating.

Flashing Sign Systems — Sign Alert LED Retrofits

LED rings that field-retrofit onto almost any existing sign, with 100-level auto-dimming, solar or AC power, and high-intensity LEDs visible day or night. Motion-activated to conserve power and extend LED life, and MUTCD compliant.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do radar speed signs work?

A radar speed sign detects an approaching vehicle’s speed and displays it back to the driver in real time. Zumar’s Value Series shows the number on a 7-segment LED display and flashes when the posted limit is exceeded; the iQ Series adds a full-matrix display that can show custom messages like “SLOW DOWN” alongside the speed, plus beacon outputs and up to 9 months of stored traffic data.

Are radar speed signs effective?

Radar speed signs are one of the most common tools cities and counties use to slow traffic in school zones and neighborhoods, because they give drivers immediate, specific feedback rather than a static warning. Zumar’s iQ Series also logs the speed data it collects, so agencies get a record of whether speeds actually came down after installation.

What is an RRFB?

RRFB stands for rectangular rapid flashing beacon — a pedestrian-activated warning light used at crosswalks to alert drivers that someone is crossing. Zumar’s Push 2 Cross system is built around the SA328 RRFB and is MUTCD-compliant for marked crosswalks, Safe Routes to School crossings, and mid-block pedestrian crossings.
